Coral Gables is the name given to a significant city located in Miami Dade County, Florida. The United States Census reports that this city is almost one hundred (100) square kilometers and has a population of over 40,000.
Coral Gables is one of the initially planned communities in South Florida and is well known for strict code enforcement and municipal code. Coral Gables was founded in the mid-1920s by George Merrick, who inspired the city’s Mediterranean style of architecture. Around that time, this city was also chosen to be the home of the University of Miami, which is still located in Coral Gables.
The founders of Coral Gables envisioned a “City Beautiful” as well as a “Garden City,” with lush green avenues meandering through a residential city, interrupted by civic landmarks, and ornamented with intricate and whimsical architectural elements. Coral Gables, often known as The City Beautiful, is a planned city that mixes color, detailing, and the Mediterranean Revival architectural style.
Other landmarks in Coral Gables include the Venetian Pool and the historic Biltmore Hotel. The scenic street of Coral Way, including the portion known as “Miracle Mile”, is also an attractive area. Coral Gables is currently home to several commercial businesses and banks.
Coral Gables is known for its beautiful Mediterranean Revival architecture, which is enhanced with plazas, parks, and fountains. Is also known for its boutiques and cafés along Miracle Mile, as well as outdoor delights like the Venetian Pool, a coral rock quarry and natural aquifer for swimming, and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, an 83-acre paradise of tropical flora and trees near Biscayne Bay.
Coral Gables is a large job hub, with about as many people working as residing in the city. The Coral Gables economy is made up of both domestic and international businesses, although unlike other areas of Florida, it is not as highly influenced by seasonal fluctuations. The city is particularly appealing to companies due to its closeness to Miami International Airport, the Port of Miami, and downtown Miami, as well as its suitability for executive housing. A vintage-style trolley also connects several of the business areas, Grand Avenue, and the Metrorail. In addition to being the international headquarters for Bacardi and Del Monte Fresh Produce, the city offers a strong offering of banking, investment institutions, health care, and professional services. The University of Miami, the city’s major employer, is also located in Coral Gables.
